Meteora is, after Mount Athos, the largest and with a continuous presence since the time of the establishment of the first ascetics until today, a monastic ensemble in Greece.

The six monasteries to be visited in Meteora are today restored and with most of them preserved their fresco decoration. In 1989 Unesco inscribed Meteora on the World Heritage List as a cultural and natural asset of particular importance.
